Mathews High School junior Cam Matthews takes a cut at the ball in last Thursday’s varsity baseball game against King William. The Devils fell to the visiting Cavaliers, 14-0. King William scored four runs in the opening two innings and that score held until the fifth inning when the Cavaliers exploded for eight more runs on the way to their win. Danny Hogge, Colin Moore and Roane Gray were the only Devils to get hits in the game. Mathews travels to Charles City today, Thursday, May 2, to face the Panthers. The next home game for Mathews is Tuesday against West Point. The JV baseball and softball teams will play at 4 p.m., with the varsity games at 6.
