The Mathews County Board of Supervisors approved matching funds for a National Park Service grant for the old sewage treatment site on Put-In Creek during a special meeting held last Thursday night in the historic courthouse.
The board also discussed planned improvements to the historic courthouse and unanimously and without discussion approved applying for a $50,000 Department of Game and Inland Fisheries grant for building a pier for power boat access at the East River Boat Yard.

Planning and zoning director John Shaw told the board that, although members had already approved a resolution supporting a $118,000 National Park Service 50/50 matching grant for improvements to the site of the former sewage treatment plant, further board approval would be needed. The reduced amount now needed for the county’s half is $88,000, he said.
