Mason steps down from leadership role with NAACP

Mathews Supervisor Melissa Mason, a member of the Mathews NAACP, informed chapter president Edith Turner in a letter last week that she was resigning from the group’s executive board and recusing herself from serving in any decision-making role or voting within the organization on any issue that has an impact on Mathews County.
Mason said that, as a county supervisor, she must put aside personal responsibilities, opinions, and initiatives. She said that she has served the county objectively and has conducted herself in such a way that there has been no conflict with any personal or business interests.
“This decision is not about me,” she said, “but it is about the community that we live in, the community that I serve, and the fact that I continue to put all citizens first in my actions.”
