Mary Riley Oliver, 92, of Hayes, died Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Lancashire Convalescent Center.
She was born Oct. 4, 1922 in Gloucester to the late Luther Riley and Ruby Hogge Riley. Mary was a lifetime member of Union Baptist Church, Achilles, Va. During her last days she wanted to share with her children, grandchildren and others about Jesus and the message of salvation and eternal life. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mary was also preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Pendleton Bradford Oliver and her second husband of 12 years, Charles Wroten; three brothers, Bernard Riley, Cecil Riley and Aaron Riley, and three sisters, Annie Earhart, Leigh Hubbard and Clarice Thacker.
Mary is survived by one sister, Dorothy Smith of White Marsh, Va.; one brother, Luther C. Riley of Louisiana; one son, Leroy Oliver and wife Mary; two daughters, Fleta West and husband Marion Earl and Dale Jenkins and husband James, all of Hayes, Va.; five grandchildren, Calvin Oliver of Maryland, Michael Oliver and wife Anne of Gloucester, Va., Charles West and wife Stacey of Yorktown, Va., Judy Ward and husband Stan of Glenns, Va., and Tammy Johnson and husband Chris of Hayes; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren, and one step-son, Dale Wroten.
Funeral service, conducted by the Rev. Richard Whiteheart, was held 2 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2015 at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Interment followed in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends prior to the service on Friday, from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home.
