Marty Gerald Swain, aged 70, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 21, 2024. Marty was born on June 9, 1954 in North Carolina to Levi B. Swain and Dorcus D. Swain.
Marty was a deeply spiritual man who shared God’s love with others. He had a kind heart, was an inspiration to all who knew him and was loved and admired by many. The impact of Marty’s life will be felt for years to come by all that he met. Marty cherished his family, friends the word of God and enjoyed hunting, time with nature and cooking a great meal or his famous pies and cakes for family and friends.
Marty worked for and retired from the Daily Press in Newport News. His reliability, skill and attention to detail caused him to be one of the most valued individuals, together with his integrity and devotion he gained many lifelong friends.
Marty was an example of a man driven by his purpose and faith in God and centered in love. He would always challenge those around him to be the best version of themselves. He had a heart of gold and would never hesitate to give his last to someone in need.
Marty’s legacy will live on forever through the many stories he shared and the memories of those who had the opportunity to know him. He will be remembered as a loving husband, son, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.
Marty was preceded in death by his father, Levi B. Swain; brother, Michael A. Swain; sister, Patricia Allen and daughter Leah Harrison. Marty is survived by his beloved mother, Dorcus D. Swain; his wife whom he loved dearly: Deborah Swain; his brothers and sisters, Frank Swain (Sabine Swain), Greg Swain (David Pugh), Ben Swain, Dan Allen; his cherished children and grandchildren; son, Ashley Swain; daughter, Katye Swain; son, Jesse Staples (Esther Nderitu); grandsons, Lincoln and Lennox Staples, and granddaughter, Naomi Staples, and many other cousins, family members, friends and loved ones.
In remembrance, a gathering will take place on December 2, 2024 at Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton, where we will honor Marty’s enduring impact on our hearts.
