Martha "Frances" Potts Andrews, 84, of Gloucester, passed away on Monday, June 18, 2012 in Gloucester, Va.
She was born in Snow Hill, N.C. to the late James Henry and Iola Marshburn Potts and was the widow of John H. "Jack" Andrews.
She was a graduate of St. Elizabeth’s Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1948, and a longtime member of Bellamy United Methodist Church in Gloucester. She retired from the Middlesex County Public Schools where she taught a Health Assistant Group in the Vocation Department. She also taught a CNA course at Rappahannock Community College. She worked alongside her husband Jack while he was the manager of Royston Funeral Home in Marshall, Va., Colonial Funeral Home in Smithfield, Va., and when they moved to Gloucester, she was very much behind the scenes.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her siblings, Ruth, Buddy, Dick, and Mary Lou.
She is survived by her sons, Gerald L. "Jerry" Andrews and his wife Ann of Gloucester and John Michael "Mike" Andrews of Jacksonville, Fla.; her sister, Carolyn Rodgers of Sarasota, Fla.; grandchildren, Hope Andrews Hunter and her husband Nick, Jeri-Lee Andrews Russ and her husband Justin, Justin James Andrews and his wife Jessica of Fairbanks, Alaska, Mary Grace Andrews of Tampa, Fla., and Kelly Michelle Andrews of Springfield; her great-grandchildren, David Noah Russ and Colbie Faith Russ, and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Andrews Funeral Home on Thursday, June 21, 2012 from 6:30-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 22, 2012 at 11 a.m. in Bellamy United Methodist Church, 4870 Chestnut Fork Road, Gloucester. Burial will be in Bellamy Memorial Cemetery.
