Affectionately known as "Polly"
Polly died peacefully in her sleep Jan. 10, 2012.
She was born in Salisbury, Md., on Feb. 14, 1933 to King Russell Workman and Georgia Ellen Brown.
Polly grew up on the family farm outside of Salisbury, where she became one of the youngest female pilots on the Delmarva Peninsula at the age of 17. She regularly flew the family plane.
Polly worked many different jobs, including secretary at an airport, security guard, dog groomer and truck driver for Tatterson Greenhouses in Port Haywood. She showed Standard Poodles and German Shepherds at AKC shows for years.
Survivors include many cousins in the Delmarva area and many friends in Mathews.
Polly was a generous, kind-hearted woman who helped many people in the Gloucester-Mathews area. If you would like to honor her memory by adopting one of her rescue cats, please contact Monica Robbins in Port Haywood.
A memorial service will be held in late spring on the property where Polly lived for the last 36 years. An announcement will be put in the paper at that time.
