Even though this year’s event was canceled, the Mathews Market Days Committee will still be holding the Mathews Market Days poster sale from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4 at the Bay School Community Arts Center in Mathews.
The 2021 poster features the artwork of the late W. Langley Deagle Sr. A graduate of Mathews High School, Deagle was a graphic artist for the Naval Weapons Station and was also known for having painted the names on many boats in and around the Mathews County area.
Deagle’s work expanded from on boats to paintings on canvas, drawings on paper and more, primarily showcasing his love for birds and the Chesapeake Bay.
The 2021 Mathews Market Days poster features Deagle’s painting of a local buyboat, the “Lavenia H.” Deagle’s wife, Janet, will be present at the poster sale along with some of their children to honor his artwork and legacy at this first poster sale event.
