Marjorie Stevens Lawson, 86, of Hayes, died Sept. 18, 2011 at home surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Lawson was born in Benton Harbor, Mich. She served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and worked for many years as a switchboard operator in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
Mrs. Lawson was an avid boater, loved swimming and was an accomplished diver. She was an excellent cook. Mrs. Lawson loved good food, dancing and socializing with family and friends, and had a wonderful smile that could light up a room.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Marjorie Stevens; her brother, Bill Stevens and her sister, Dolly Carpenter.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, John Irvin Lawson Sr.; son, John Irvin Lawson, Jr. and wife Marilynn Zauner; daughters, Julia Weston George and husband Stephen, Sandra Lawson Wharen and husband Bob; granddaughters, Cheryl Weston Lambert and husband Bryan, Angela Rene Weston, great-grandchildren, Rachel Erin Lambert, Andrew Douglas Weston; brothers, Jim Stevens, Leo Stevens; beloved granddog Lyndi, and numerous family and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service, conducted by the Rev. Arthur L. Wolz Jr. will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011 at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Inurnment will be in Arlington Cemetery at a later date.
