The Mathews Maritime Foundation will hold its Maritime Heritage Day Festival on Saturday, July 17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will be held outdoors on the lawn beside the museum which is located on Main Street.
Tents will be set up for various activities and projects the foundation is currently working on. MMF members can sign up for a Sunday Cruise on Chesapeake Bay buyboat “The Peggy” or for boatbuilding and repair workshops which will take place at the Gwynn’s Island Boat Shop.
Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 66 will give a presentation on water safety with the support of the Mathews Outdoor Club. Coloring books and other handouts will be available for kids and face painting will take place near this site.
John Atkinson of Gwynn’s Island will perform and Backwoods BBQ will have food for sale. The museum will be open during the event. If the event is postponed due to weather, it will be moved to the following Saturday, July 24.
