Marian Laverne Link Spurling, age 94, of Hayes, Va., passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 11, 2022. Marian was born on September 5, 1928, to the late Lester Laverne and Irene Margaret LeMaster Link in Hawaii. She was an angel in this life to her family, church, friends, and community. Marian was preceded in death by her husband, John “Jack” Francis Spurling; her daughter, Jacqueline Spurling Cottingham, and grandson, G. Russell Cottingham IV. Her survivors include her daughters, Leslie Sawyer, Julie Hitch, and Pattie Zeran; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. A memorial service officiated by the Rev. Sven vanBaars will be held at Abingdon Episcopal Church on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at 11 a.m. In memory of Marian, contributions may be made to Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue, P.O.
