Margaret W. Gayle, 84, of Mathews, Va., passed away on Friday, Aug. 3, 2012.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, George W. Gayle Sr. She is survived by her son, George W. Gayle Jr. (Susan) of Dayton, Ohio; her daughter, Patricia G. Sankey (John) of Richmond, Va.; her brother, John W. Ward (Frances) of Mathews, and several nieces and nephews.

Margaret was a registered nurse who graduated from Elizabeth Buxton Hospital School of Nursing. She worked at several hospitals in Richmond, retiring from the Medical College of Virginia in 1983 where she taught patient education for 13 years.

She was a member of Central Methodist Church in Mathews and the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 83.

The family received friends on Tuesday, Aug. 7 from 10-11 a.m. at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home in Mathews, followed by a graveside service at Windsor Gardens Cemetery in Dutton, Va.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad or the Breast Cancer Research Center.
