Margaret Disney McComb, known to her friends as “Peggy,” passed away peacefully at her home in Bena, Va., on August 19, 2023 at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Dr. Charles McComb, and her daughter, Catherine McComb. She was born and lived in Washington, D.C., spending time in the summers at her family home in Bena. After graduating from George Washington University, she married Charles and lived in Berwyn Heights, Md., until they retired permanently to Bena.
She was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientists, Williamsburg, Va., serving for many years as reading room librarian. Peggy loved to tend her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. She also loved to swim and cook wonderful family dinners. But mostly she loved her family and friends and the joy brought by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. An active and founding member of the Colonial Virginia Chapter of the Holly Society of America, she was also active in the local York River Garden Club.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, Patricia McComb Dawson of Edgewater, Md.; her son, Robert Disney McComb (Melanie) of Gloucester Point; granddaughter, Sarah Jones (Clay) of Clifton Forge, Va.; grandson, Robert Disney McComb II of Edmond, Okla., and great-granddaughters, Kailyn, Sadie, Layna and Ainsley.
A memorial service for Peggy will be held on June 14, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Abingdon Episcopal Church, White Marsh, Va., and followed by a visitation directly afterwards in the church’s parish hall.
