Margaret Marie Bareford Cooke, 96, of Mattaponi, Va., passed away on May 8, 2024.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Burnley “Bunn” Cooke; her parents, Robert and Gertrude Bareford; three sisters, Elsie Llewellyn, Louise Bareford and Hazel Elliott, and three brothers, Carter, Fred and Edward Bareford.

Margaret was a member of Poroporone Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School in the children’s department for 33 years.

She is survived by her two sons, William B. “Bill” Cooke Jr. and his wife Rosanna of Mathews, and Michael L. Cooke of Mattaponi; her brother, Robert Bareford Jr.; four grandchildren, Dr. Matthew Cooke, Kendall Tayman (Joseph), William Cooke III and Carter Cooke (Samantha); six great-grandchildren, Ryleigh, Dustyn and Brynna Tayman, and Will, Nate and Addison Cooke.

A funeral service was held 3 p.m. Monday, May 13 at Poroporone Baptist Church, Shacklefords, Va., with burial following in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 1:30-3, just prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Poroporone Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O.
