Margaret “Maggie” Thrift Blaylock, age 77, of Mechanicsville, formerly of Middlesex, passed away on Friday, Jan. 20, 2023. She was preceded in death by her mother, Edwina Thrift; father, Walter E. Thrift; brother, Walter “Skip” Thrift, and sister, Edwina Ashberry. She graduated from Middlesex High School in 1963 where she was a majorette and the homecoming queen. Margaret retired from Reynolds Metal Company after nearly 30 years. She then started a career with AMF where she retired in 2013. She was known to her grandchildren as “Nan”; after retirement all of her time was dedicated to her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Margaret loved to travel and enjoyed shopping. She was a generous person, always caring for others. She often donated gifts to the less fortunate. Her grandchildren will always remember her regular morning routine of starting her day with a McDonald’s iced coffee. Her family will miss her loving phrase that she will always love them to the moon and back. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 59 years, Kenneth R. Blaylock Sr.; children, Kenneth Blaylock Jr. (Cindy) and Michael Blaylock; grandchildren, Austin Blaylock (Kelly) and Josh Blaylock; great-grandchildren, Landon Blaylock and Avery Blaylock; sisters, Juanita Smith (Jerry) and Casey Escolopio (Bobby), and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, 2023, at Woody Funeral Home-Atlee Chapel, 9271 Shady Grove Road, Mechanicsville, Va. 23116, where a funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Graveside service will follow at Hanover Memorial Park, 4447 Mechanicsville Turnpike, Mechanicsville, Va. 23111.
