Margaret Hutson Armistead, age 93, of Peary, Va., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012.
She was born in Mathews on Feb. 9, 1918, the daughter of Jesse M. and Ruth West Hutson.
She was a lifelong devoted member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church, where she served as a Children’s Sunday School teacher, choir member and an active member of the United Methodist Women.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her family is a testimony to her love, faith and generosity.
Mrs. Armistead was preceded in death by her husband, William G. Armistead, and a sister, Ruth Ailsworth. She is survived by her son, W. Howard Armistead and his wife Sarah of Midlothian, and her daughter, Janice E. Melander and her husband David of Manassas; her three grandchildren, Kristina L. Armistead, Meredith B. Armistead and Andrew G. Melander and his wife Jessica; two nephews and several cousins.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012, in the Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home Chapel in Mathews with graveside services following in St. Paul Annex Cemetery in Susan, Va. The family received friends on Saturday, Jan. 28 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family has requested that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 723, Mathews, Va. 23109 and St. Matthew United Methodist Church, 1581 Garden Creek Road, Mathews, Va. 23109.
