On Saturday, the Mathews High School Marching Blue Devils traveled to Gloucester High School for the Bands Along the Bay Competition. The band competed against Kecoughtan, King William and West Point in Class A competition. The band lost a tight race for second place in class, finishing three points behind King William and one point behind West Point. The band also placed second in the Visual and Drum Major competitions in their class. This Saturday, the band will travel to Bailey Field in York County for its VBODA State Assessment Performance at 10 a.m. Among those performing for Mathews on Saturday were, from left, Abby Henry, Corey Zheng, Riley Tripp, Jordan Sadeg, Layla Behnam, Alex McDevitt, Logan Macias, Toby Eskins, Tristan Barnes and Bethany Davis.
