‘Maggie Walker Story’ presented to MES students

“The Maggie Walker Story” was presented to Mathews Elementary School third and fourth grade students on March 1 by the Virginia Repertory Children’s Theatre.
VRCT is a nonprofit professional theater group from Richmond that produces educational plays for young audiences in Richmond as well as schools and public venues across Virginia and the United States.
The drama was a tribute to an American woman from Richmond who helped organize the first civil rights strike by African American students and who became the nation’s first female bank president, said a press release. Through the production, students were able to develop a deeper understanding of Walker, described as a “powerful force in civil rights during the times in which she lived.”
After the play, students were able to ask questions of the actors, and were enthusiastic in their interaction with the cast, said the release.
