The first weekend of the Made in Mathews Open Studio Tour, held this past Friday through Sunday, was pronounced a success by tour spokesman Buz Rollins.
Several artists had a record number of shoppers, said Rollins, and there was increased traffic on Sunday due to the “Crab Crawl,” which gives those visiting the studios a chance to win “a significant prize of artists’ donations.”
The tour will continue this weekend, with hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Held annually, the tour includes over a dozen artists’ studios from Cobbs Creek to New Point, including the Mathews Visitors Center and the Bay School in downtown Mathews. Local stores and restaurants often benefit, as well, from the influx of visitors who come to Mathews to participate in the tour.
