Machicomoco State Park, Hayes, is one of Virginia’s state parks to hold a First Day Hike. “Woodland Wondering” will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025.
First Day Hike participants will gather at the park’s Interpretive Area, where Machicomoco’s rangers will lead participants on a woodland hike. “This adventure will take you through the forest and grasslands of the park as you explore the diverse ecosystems that Machicomoco has to offer,” a release stated.
Participants will be hiking approximately one mile on easy terrain consisting of gravel or mowed grass. Arrive early to enjoy hot cider, courtesy of the Friends of Machicomoco.
Machicomoco State Park is located at 3601 Timberneck Farm Road.
