Out with the old and in with the new. This new year, Machicomoco State Park welcomes you, starting with a free First Day Hike on January 1, starting at 11:30 a.m.
Spending more time outdoors is a fun and achievable New Year’s resolution and the state park in Hayes offers a variety of environments to explore.
Visitors can use boat slips to fish for striped bass in the salt marsh or look for birds in the grasslands surrounding its Songbird Trail. Visitors can also enjoy the smell of pine while hiking on Loblolly Trail. Plans are underway for the Feb. 1 reopening of the park’s cartop boat launch.
For more information about the park, visit www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/machicomoco or call the park office at 804-642-2419. Those interested in getting more involved with the park can visit www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/volunteers to register as a volunteer.
