The Mathews VA250 Committee and the Mathews Bay School Community Arts Center have jointly announced a competition to design two LOVEworks signs in the county. The proposals are due by Jan. 25.
An initial award of $5,000 to the two organizations from the Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission for construction of the signs was announced in October. The committee is seeking artists to submit their proposals for signs on the two sites selected to house the signs, The Hatchery at Callis Wharf on Gwynn’s Island and Williams Wharf in Mathews. Both of the LOVEworks signs will be visible from the water.
Laura Jones, spokesperson for Mathews VA250 Committee, noted that artists can come up with their own proposals for what the signs will look like. After the Jan. 25 deadline, there will be a public display of design proposals at the Bay School, followed by a public reveal of the selected proposals on Feb. 25.
