Local writer to publish devotional book of poems

Joel Emerson of Hayes has spent the past nine years writing poetry and is set to publish his work as a daily devotional within the next nine months.
Emerson has written 365 poems since 2011, mostly about God and God’s Kingdom and a few about his family. “I tell everybody they’re given to me by God,” said Emerson.
He writes under the pen name “Tertius,” after the biblical scribe who penned the book of Romans, dictated by the Apostle Paul. “I feel like God gives them to me and all I do is scribble,” said Emerson about his poems.
He has also set approximately 70 of his poems to music that he writes and plays using his guitar and posts a new song on his Facebook page every week. “The Lord gives me the music too,” said Emerson.
Emerson’s vision for his book is to have a music note beside each of his musical poems in his book so people can look them up and listen to them online.
