Local amateur photographer Harrison Franks, a lifelong resident of Tidewater Virginia who resides at Gloucester Point, recently published “Lens of Perception,” a photography book with photos taken of the area. It first became available on Amazon in October 2023.
“I decided that I needed to make a book because I was unhappy with the current social media driven state of hyper-real photography. I felt it cheapened the art form,” he said.
Lens of Perception is the result of a yearlong body of work that started in 2022. It employs many different film and digital cameras, and many different photography styles. Photos were taken in Gloucester, Middlesex, Newport News, Smithfield, Tappahannock, and Williamsburg. His wife Madison edited and also contributed some photos of her own.
At age 28, he was diagnosed with schizophrenia and has said refining his skills in photography and editing has helped him live a normal life.
“Lens of Perception” can be found on Amazon.
