Local couple marks 70th wedding anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Charlie N. Holt of Gloucester celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Tuesday.
Charlie N. Holt and Queenie L. Firth were married November 21, 1953 in Newport, Tennessee. They settled in Poquoson, then Tabb, before moving to Gloucester Point in 1982 and Gloucester Court House in 2003. They have been members of Gloucester Point Baptist Church for 40 years.
Mr. Holt worked as an auto mechanic for several car dealerships on the Peninsula for many years. He retired from Bowditch Ford in 1993 after 20 years of service there. Mrs. Holt was employed by York County as a full-time bus driver for the public school system. She retired in 2002 after 39 years of service transporting elementary, intermediate, high school and special needs students.
They have four children, Darrell Holt, Jerry Holt, Connie Stewart and Cathy Walton; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
