LLOYD RONALD ‘RON’ MARTIN

Lloyd Ronald “Ron” Martin, 76, of Port Haywood, Virginia, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024, at his home. Ron graduated from Amherst County High School where he participated in football, track, and wrestling. He received an award, Prep All American Football 1965, for outstanding performance. He was inducted into the Amherst County Sports Hall of Fame and was co-captain of the football team. He received a full football scholarship to UNC Chapel Hill. Ron served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and was given the Commanders Award for civilian service from the Department of Army.

He worked as an electrician for several years and was the Youth Services and Early Childhood Director at Fort Eustis until 2010 after which he retired. Ron was a football coach with Mathews High School and Gloucester Youth Football. He was a devoted Christian and a member of Cornerstone Fellowship Church where he served many years as a member of the praise and worship team. He was a lifelong member of the Tidewater VA Beagle Club and the York River Hunters Association. Ron loved playing the guitar, banjo and mandolin, Christian and bluegrass music, fishing, gardening, hunting, and volunteering to sing in many churches and nursing homes. Ron and his high school sweetheart, Judith, were married for 54 years, and they shared the same birthday.

He was predeceased by his parents, Alvin and Wanda Martin.

He is survived by his wife, Judith; daughters, Brennan Martin of Eskisehir, Turkey, and Samantha Coalter (Andy) of Watertown, N.Y.; three sons, Randy Martin (Jaye) of Gloucester, Virginia, Seth Martin (Alanna) of Ellicott City, Maryland, and Andrew Martin (Mindy) of Gloucester; grandchildren, Madison, Meagan, Kennedy, Casey, Eliza, Anna, Silas, Norah, Maeve, Aiden, Bryson and Luna; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Becky Bryant (Rod) and Chris Martin, and a brother, Craig Martin (Judy).

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, from 5-7 p.m. at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, Virginia. Funeral services will be private.
