Linda Downs Hicks of Gloucester, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, March 19, 2024. Linda is survived by her children, Bruce Love, Elizabeth George (Aaron), and Kevin Love (Tiffany). Linda met and eventually married her husband of 29 years, James Hicks (Pop), while attending LightHouse Church. James Hicks preceded Linda with his own passing only four months ago.
Linda was born into her life on August 5, 1949, and was raised in Hudson County, N.J., eventually moving to Virginia as a young adult. She was the middle sister and is survived by her older brother, Tom Downs (Suzanne), and her younger brother, John Downs (Donna). Linda is also survived by eight grandchildren added during her life journey, and nephews and nieces as well.
Linda was known for a boisterous and loud laugh for her small frame. She often laughed at times when others may consider to be inappropriate, or tense moments. She could find humor in any situation. She could often be heard before she was seen at social gatherings because she laughed easily and often.
Linda’s passing was preceded by that of her father, Ray Downs, and her mother, Anne Downs. Linda was a servant of the Lord. She visited Israel and “did it all.” She went to Golan Heights, Nazareth, Jerusalem, toured the old city of David and danced in a boat on the Sea of Galilee. Linda has been called home to her Lord and Savior, and she is likely laughing right now.
A celebration and memorial of Linda’s life journey will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 6 at LightHouse Church, 4299 George Washington Memorial Highway in Hayes, Va. 23072. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Gloucester Fire and Rescue Squad.
