The most severe electrical storm of this season passed over Gloucester Tuesday evening, centering at Gloucester Court House. The new concrete high school, known as Botetourt High School, was struck by lightning and part of a chimney and the roof injured. Several trees were struck and telegraph communication was interrupted.

I will offer a cup for the best baseball club in Mathews County, all games to be played on the Mathews baseball ground and two umpires for each game. All clubs wishing to play will please make application to Mr. Marvin Minter and file a list of the players and substitutes who will take part during the contest. A committee will name the dates and number of games to be played after the number of clubs are known. —G. S. Marchant.
