LIEUTENANT COMMANDER RANALD JOSEPH ARNTZ SR.

Lieutenant Commander Ranald Joseph Arntz Sr., U.S. Navy-retired, of Hayes, died on Friday, February 14, 2025, at the age of 94. Ranald (Ron or Cmdr.) was born on February 12, 1931. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1980 with 30 years of service. He was a “Mustang,” 15-year enlisted and 15 years as an officer. He taught at Gloucester High School’s NJROTC program, where he retired after 12 years in 1993. Over the years, he enjoyed occasional restaurant get-togethers with former cadets from the NJROTC classes he taught. Ron was an avid bowler for over 60 years. He participated for 12 years in the VA Commonwealth Games Senior Bowling tournaments, winning one silver and 10 gold medals. His final year was 2017, when he was interviewed and recognized by the games as the oldest participant at 86 years old. He really enjoyed his Kindle reading 100s of Western books and watching his Westerns on TV. He diligently completed the daily crossword puzzles in the paper for years as he loved a good challenge. His weekend breakfast ritual started in 2015, and he had the same server, Candace, for 10 years. Theresa, his wife, preceded him in death. He is survived by his children: Michelle Burns, Ranald (Randy) Arntz Jr., Lorrie West and husband Chris, and Larry Arntz and wife Joy, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at Hogg Funeral Home from 2-3:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 24, 2025, at Hogg Funeral Home, and interment will follow with full military honors in Gloucester Point Cemetery. At the request of Commander Ron, please dress casually.
