Letter: Words can kill

Editor, Gazette-Journal:
Ex-President Trump’s racist rhetoric may cost American lives. His ignorant words show a lack of understanding about the importance of America’s worldwide cooperation with people of all faiths and colors.
I trained numerous foreign intelligence agencies. They wanted to model their organizations on the U.S.—not Russia’s, not China’s, not Britain’s. We are the best.
I was teaching in the Far East after Trump was elected. The skin of my students was darker than mine; they were Muslim, Hindu, and a variety of oriental religions. They shared one thing, a love and admiration for the U.S., which they viewed as President Reagan’s “Shining City on a Hill.”
Trump’s Muslim ban, his putting Hispanic people in camps and taking their children from them brought my class to a standstill. The students demanded an explanation. I could not defend Trump’s bile.
My training ended.
