Letter: What they think

Editor, Gazette-Journal:
Since Nov. 5, there has been a flurry of Democrat/Left letters. This is understandable; the authors are frustrated because their great hopes for the first black female president in America were dashed. However, the extreme nature of many of these letters—warnings of storm troopers, dictators, cuts to social security, total abortion bans, racism, etc.—betrays an obvious elitism. Many of these messages are contrary to clearly stated Republican positions; some even contrary to logic. The fear-mongering, repetition of proven untruths (e.g., Russian collusion), and distortion of statements, indicates an attitude of superiority. They clearly think that the 77.3 million Americans who voted for Trump are stupid; just a bunch of Bubbas, rubes, and uneducated illiterates. Or as their leaders say: deplorables, neanderthals, and garbage.
