Letter: Vote ‘Yes’ on referendum

Editor, Gazette-Journal:
I am writing to ask fellow Gloucester residents to vote yes for the bond referendum on Gloucester’s Nov. 7 election ballot.
As a parent of, longtime supporter of Gloucester High School athletics and a current member of the Dukes Touchdown Club board I can tell you that the projects that would be completed would significantly improve our entire community. According to county information, the bonds would fund renovating the 50-year-old wing at Botetourt to improve security; replacing HVACs at schools with critical needs; and renovate the 30-year-old sports complex at Gloucester High School.
Among other issues, the 1973 wing of Botetourt is no longer secure because it has multiple doors from classrooms to the outside. There are also security issues with our 1993 sports complex at the high school because of the multiple points of entry and exit, as well as safety issues with the substandard fields and courts for our students, coaches, and community.
