Hans Christian Andersen’s story, “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” resembles our current political climate. For fear of looking foolish, the people of the empire pretend to believe they can see invisible fabrics being created by dishonest weavers. To appear loyal, the people play along and deny all reason. Although their eyes could see for themselves, it is not until a child blurts the obvious does the truth penetrate the utter nonsense on full display. This reveals the emperor is unfit to rule and that people are easily deceived.
Like the emperor’s subjects, the American public must determine faact from fiction. However, today half of the people refuse to admit what they should see for themselves.
