As a resident of Gloucester Point, I am deeply proud of my daughter’s service as a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). The recent moves to dismantle this vital agency fill me with profound sadness and anger.
USAID exemplifies the very best of American generosity, operating on a modest budget—approximately 0.33 percent of the Gross Domestic Product. Despite this small allocation, it has a monumental impact worldwide. In 2023, USAID’s nutrition programs reached over 39 million women and children, providing essential health services. The agency’s efforts in promoting democracy, delivering critical health services, and fostering education have been instrumental in stabilizing emerging nations.
