Letter: The politics of guns

Editor, Gazette-Journal:
I am not a gun owner. I didn’t grow up around firearms, nor have I ever shot a gun. My husband owns guns and has offered to teach me how to use one, but I choose not to. I don’t believe I could shoot another living being.
I do believe people should have the right to own guns. But I don’t understand why the gun laws in our country aren’t stricter. And I have trouble comprehending why anyone needs an assault weapon as part of their collection. It’s excessive. And dangerous.
My concern is that the politics around gun ownership prevents many people from seeing the logic. People are dying because the laws aren’t strict enough. It’s terrifying to think about the number of firearms in unstable people’s possession. Somedays, I’m worried that I’m one road rage incident away from getting shot.
Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are both gun owners, each for their own reasons, and their positions on gun laws are reasonable. Plus, they’re not in the back pockets of the NRA. Tim Ka...
