Your story of the 100th anniversary of the former Peninsula School in Bohannon brought back memories of my family’s roots in that community. My great-grandmother Gladys White Morgan, my grandfather Jimmie Morgan, and my great-uncle Allen Morgan all received an education there. They blazed a trail for our family.
During the period in which the old schoolhouse was used for lodge and community activities, I looked up to many giants of their time: Mary Cannon Haislip, Lorraine Roane, Dorothy Gayle, Carrie Lee Gayle, Jim and Virginia Junkins, Elizabeth Loving, Iris DeWitt, Machen White and Mary Philpotts Hudgins, just to name a few. Each one left a long-lasting legacy in White’s Neck. They and others shared the vision in continuing to articulate the rich history of the longstanding schoolhouse.
