Editor, Gazette-Journal:
On Friday night, I had the honor of attending the Thomas Hunter Middle School Talent Show.
I did not attend as an audience member. I volunteered as the adult who organized the performers to get them on stage in a seamless way.
I had a great time. And I had a chance to form a few opinions about the tweens of Mathews County.
All performers were a combination of excited, nervous, attentive, supportive, and polite. There was singing, a gymnastics demonstration, a comedy skit, and a piano recital.
I want to specifically compliment Paige Griffith. She was helpful, polite, especially supportive of each of the performers, and listened and paid attention to all direction given to her. Paige won the completely subjective and totally unofficial “visiting adult volunteer award.”
My overall takeaway of Friday night was this … the people who denigrate the kids in Mathews are wrong. If these are the kids that the parents, schools of Mathews County, and the community are nurtu...
