Letter: The Deep State

Once again, the prescience of Jefferson has been ably demonstrated by his admonition against the consolidation of government power. “It is not by the consolidation or concentration of powers but by their distribution that good government is effected.”
Former Trump advisor Sebastian Gorka referred to the Washington establishment as the “permanent state.” No matter the term used to describe the unaccountable, unelected and highly destructive bureaucracy within the Washington establishment, be it Shadow Government, the Deep State or Double Government, the establishment is elusive in its identity. While it has a perceptible face within any number of government agencies, it remains largely opaque to America at large. A former Supreme Court Justice, Felix Frankfurter, noted “The real rulers in Washington are invisible and exercise power from behind the scenes.”
