All of us at the Mathews County Visitor and Information Center (MCVIC) want to shout a big “THANK YOU” to everyone who has contributed to our Mobi-mat project thus far. We love and appreciate our generous Mathews commUNITY!
As referenced in May 8, 2024 issue of the Gazette-Journal, a Mobi-mat is a semi-rigid mat made of recycled materials that can be rolled out on sand to make beaches more accessible. The project, which has been spearheaded by MCVIC volunteers and artists Buz and Tammy Rollins, will allow Haven Beach to become the first wheelchair-accessible beach in Mathews.
The Mobi-mat also allows easier beach access for families with strollers, people with mobility issues who use canes and walkers, and even for rolling coolers!
Thanks to generous donations by community members and a grant from Mathews Rotary Club, we are getting closer to our fundraising goal, but are still in need of additional funding to secure the Mobi-mat before June 30, when the price ...
