I would like to thank the many visitors to the Literacy Volunteers’ booth at the Guinea Jubilee this past weekend. In spite of less-than-perfect weather, the Jubilee goers were interested in learning about our 29-year history of service to our community. Several folks signed up to become supporting members and others to volunteer with LVG. Without such community support, we could not reach the people who need our services.
I was surprised to find that there is some confusion in the wider community about the fact that Gloucester County has two adult literacy non-profit organizations, both offering free tuition for improving literacy skills, ESL or help with obtaining a GED. We are increasing our "English as a second language," or ESL, classes. Some of these can lead to meeting the requirements to becoming a U.S. citizen.
