Letter: Thanks for stories on local cooks

Editor, Gazette-Journal:
Thank you, Betty Wrenn Day, for bringing interesting stories about food and local cooks to our awesome community newspaper. Earlier this month, your column featured Annie Bell Billups Paige and her self-created recipes.
Annie Bell was quoted as saying, “I cook with what I have on hand” and recently, I just happened to have some ripe pears on hand. When I saw her recipe for Pear Pie, I knew I just had to try it.
As instructed, I chopped the pears and baked the pie until brown on top. While still warm, I sliced it and added a little ice cream on top. Wow! Annie Bell’s pear pie is amazing and reminds me of a vanilla cream pie with a subtle pear taste. What’s next? Maybe Annie Bell’s Squash Casserole.
