The current effort to dismiss the threat posed by sustainable development can only be prompted by two possible causes—ignorance or disingenuousness. If it is a conspiracy theory, as many claim, then the federal government, the United Nations and a former president are complicit.
The complicity of the federal government is evidenced by the grants of taxpayer money to the American Planning Association in the sum of $3,885,093. The Sustainable Resource Center received $9,961,640 in taxpayer money and the Institute for Sustainable Development also received $66,635,422. That is quite a sum to be granted to a conspiracy theory.
President Clinton created the President’s Council on Sustainable Development by Executive Order No. 12858 on June 29, 1993.
