Letter: Strengthening water safety measures

Editor, Gazette-Journal:
Recently, the Mathews Land Conservancy (MLC) was granted $3,000 by the Mathews Community Foundation to strengthen water safety measures at Williams Wharf Landing.
The Mathews Community Foundation grant will support the installation of marine-grade ladders and safety throw rings on our fishing piers and at our newly refurbished 300-foot riverfront boardwalk. Safety is a primary focus for MLC as the number of visitors continues to increase from year to year. New educational programs offered at Williams Wharf Landing, such as the Saltwater Learn to Fish program, will continue to increase public access to our beautiful East River location.
We are proud to be one of the numerous groups benefiting from the impressive efforts of the Mathews Community Foundation. Such cooperative endeavors allow Mathews Land Conservancy and other community groups to do even more for the citizens of our county. Thank you, Mathews Community Foundation.
