Letter: Spotting Medicare fraud

Editor, Gazette-Journal:
I have just filed a fraudulent claim report with Medicare for items that totaled $4,653 and were paid by Medicare. The medical items were actually mailed to my home, but refused, because I knew my physician had not prescribed them.
I cannot impress upon senior citizens the absolute necessity to check the Medicare Summary Notice for Part B (Medical Insurance) that arrives in your home mailbox. If the claims and costs do not match your receipts or bills, you need to call 1-800-633-4227 to report Medicare fraud. It is an easy process to report and will help eliminate the unscrupulous dealings of those who cleverly benefit from fraudulent activities.
And remember … Medicare will never call you for anything unless you first initiate the call.
