Letter: Spending accountability already exists

All citizens, no matter our political affiliation, should be concerned with where our tax dollars are going. For this reason, we elect representatives we believe will best decide how to appropriate our tax dollars.
Cutting out glut, corruption and mishandling of our hard-earned money we pay in taxes is necessary and ongoing. Did you know we have the Government Accountability Office (GAO), often referred to as “the Congressional Watchdog”?
It is fact-based and provides nonpartisan information to Congress.
GAO has a FRAUDNET hotline to support accountability across the federal government. If anyone suspects fraud, waste, abuse or mismanagement of federal funds, FRAUDNET can help report your allegations.
GAO’s work yielded $67.5 billion in financial benefits for the federal government in 2024 by recommending ways to improve efficiency and effectiveness of federal programs.
