Letter: Speak out!

Editor, Gazette-Journal:
To paraphrase the quote of German Lutheran Pastor Martin Niemöller, written during Hitler’s reign of terror and now inscribed on a wall in the Washington, D.C., Holocaust Memorial Museum:
“First they came for the immigrants, and we (the people) did not speak out—because we were not immigrants.
“Then they came for the federal agencies and their employees, and we did not speak out—because we were not federal employees.
“Then they came for our military leaders, and we did not speak out—because we were not military leaders.
“Then they will come for us and there will be no one left to speak for us.”
Speak out now! Call, text, email, or write to your local, state, and federal legislatures to demand they do something fast to save our Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, democracy, and freedom before it is too late.
