Letter: Restore traditional Election Day

Editor, Gazette-Journal:
America needs to fix the election system. We should all write our senators and representatives about this. We know, at least in Gloucester, the system and voting machines are fair. COVID should not have been an excuse to break laws and allow mail-in and early voting.
We need to move back to our traditional November Election Day. We need to go back to only allowing mail-in or early voting to deployed military or people with special circumstances, like being hospitalized. And we need to make Election Day a federal holiday so no one has an excuse for not being able to make it to the polls.
It should be an honor to do whatever you have to do to vote. You should have enough care to make sure you are informed and make sure you are at the polls on the right day.
The transparent way in which we used to vote and have our votes counted and a winner declared within 24 hours would go a long way towards restoring people’s confidence in the integrity of the electoral system....
