Letter: Recognizing academic achievers

Thank you, Ms. Joanna Ball (Readers Write, Nov. 11). You expressed so well my thoughts, that intellectual achievement is THE purpose of our schools and deserves the brief recognition of what Jefferson called an "aristocracy of achievement in a democracy of opportunity."

Do we need a better illustration of the fact that most superintendents of school should be paid less than the head custodian?
