Letter: Post-election notes

Editor, Gazette-Journal:
By the time you read this, the election will be over. Question is, how did you do? At 84 years, Christian, and observing the decline of our nation for 6+ decades, I may be able to help.
Regarding Christian, our scriptures tell us that God ordains our governments. For better or worse, He gives us what we deserve. For the present, we have been goaded by our media and politicians to believe we are a divided nation. A 50-50 outcome along party lines gives credence to such a belief. Recall “a house divided cannot stand.” Or, as Benjamin Franklin stated, “only a virtuous people can keep a Republic.”
Let’s examine the two major party platforms as a resource for the integrity of our vote. We “trust” that voters know them well in advance. Keep in mind that neither party has conformed to their doctrine over time.
