Editorial: Politics of division

Republicans in the United States had great hopes of taking over Congress with a “red wave” that turned into a ripple on Election Day. Democrats gained a seat in the Senate while the GOP managed just a small majority in the House of Representatives.
Millions of words have gone into analyzing this result, which seemed to surprise everyone. A GOP fundraiser, Steve Law, was interviewed Friday morning on National Public Radio. Law was described as a person who had raised and “spent tens of millions on Republican candidates” so his credentials are not in doubt.
His take on the election results gives a ray of hope to all of the Americans-in-the-middle who just want to see their representatives stop bickering and get to work. Law said: “Voters want to see more cooperation in Washington. They want to see people working together. They are tired of the hardcore partisanship, the crises, the scandals, they are tired of grievance politics.”
